BARRY Town United tackle Carmarthen Town at Jenner Park on Thursday, with Gavin Chesterfield's squad looking for the victory that could lift them as high as sixth in the JD Welsh Premier League.

In their 16 previous WPL meetings, Barry have won seven and Carmarthen three, with the sides contesting six draws; including a pair of stalemates in Barry's relegation season of 2003-04.

In a trivia note, Barry's last league victory over the Old Gold saw a 20-year old Adebayo Akinfenwa on target; 'The Beast' accompanying two-goal Jamie Moralee on the scoresheet in a 3-1 home win.

Despite being at least a division apart for over a decade, the Towns have met in more recent years; Carmarthen winning a 2011-12 friendly by three goals to two, in spite of a pair of long range efforts from Barry's Geraint Frowen and Lee Baldock.

Meanwhile, few Barry Town supporters will forget the most recent meeting of all; Jordan Cotterill's stunning free-kick winner handing the hosts the spoils in last season's Nathaniel MG Cup semi-final.

Barry will be without Cotterill on Thursday, although the forward has taken the next step towards his first team return; recently playing a role for the club's development side against Penybont.

Meanwhile, midfielder Macauley Southam is poised though for a home debut, after the former Cardiff City man made his Barry bow in the 1-0 loss at Llandudno on the weekend.

Tenth-placed Barry enter the field this Thursday with a record of one win, one draw and three defeats from their first five outings, with three goals scored and four conceded.

Moving up to 11th after Saturday's win at Bala, Carmarthen have hauled their goal difference back to an altogether healthier -5 and Mark Aizlewood's men will look to build upon their result at Maes Tegid with a second straight win on Thursday night.

Admission for Barry vs Carmarthen is available at the gates for £7 (adults), £5 (senior citizens/students) and £3 (children). Kick-off is at 7.45pm.
