THE Wanderers welcomed The Castle Dark Lords last week, slipping to a heavy defeat at the Glenbrook Inn.

Making his debut, Rhodri Thomas got the home team off to a winning start, but Div Jones' fine opening to the season came to an end as he was seven-balled. The next two frames were shared with Jeff Bartle producing a fine clearance to win, leaving the first singles session evenly balanced at 2-2.

The wheels fell off the bus for the Wanderers after that, with Nick Taylor and Div Jones suffering their first defeat as a partnership to trail 2-4 to The Castle Dark Lords. The next singles session were all close games and could have gone either way, especially the Jeff Bartle v Gavin Rowlands rematch, before Rowlands ruthlessly cleared up. Karl Marsh would win the Wanderers' last point in their 3-9 defeat.

The Libs returned to winning ways at home to Finnegans. The Islanders started the first session well, taking a 2-1 lead through Kane Grindley and Paulo Marenghi, but it proved to be shortlived with The Libs winning the next five frames with Mike Roberts playing some confident pool.

Back came Finnegans with wins from Steve Neilson and Carson Martin, but the night would belong to The Libs, winning the last two doubles matches with man of the match James Bastow winning four out of four.

The Boro recorded their first league win of the season, beating O'Brien's 8-4. Boro captain and man of the match Robert Larkin won three out of three frames, ably supported by Nick Meadows, Andrew Churchill, Sara Hayles, John Williams and Gavin Stevens.

O'Brien's were unlucky in a few frames and should have won more points, with Windsor Harry, Martyn Croke and John "Wolfie" Wolfenden their standout players.

The King William IV travelled to The Ship Hotel to play captain Graham Avaient's The Good, The Bad and The Ship, with both sides beginning the match unbeaten.

Lee Philips impressed yet again for the King William team, with the first singles session ending level at 2-2. But the night was all about The Ship, with Nathan Davidson, Adrian Leadbetter and Bobby Avaient shining, as both Avaient and Sion Old won four out of four. The only plus point for the King William IV team was the feast of pizza, chicken and chips provided at half time.

The Witchill Wrong'uns entertained Millwood Pot Jacks who found themselves 4-2 down after the first half on a very fast Witchill table. Millwood would only win one more frame in the second half, in what was a hard fought win for the Wrong'uns who had Colin Berryman, Sian Kedward and R Tamlyn on top form.

The county team were prepared well by captain James Hill to face the Dragon's Kiss of Carmarthen, but were let down by their opponents' no show. Barry Islanders are still favourites for promotion.
