A LADIES pair have become the second in a month from Wenvoe Castle Golf Club to reach the finals of a national competition.

Wendy Motton and Karen Ball follow in the footsteps of clubmates Barbara Beedham and Maria Venn, who last month qualified for the R&A Coronation Cup finals, to make it through to the final stages of the Australian Spoons competition.

The tournament is one of the leading competitions open to lady members of clubs affiliated to the Golf Union of Wales.

This prestigious Stableford foursomes competition began in 1967, when Australian Ladies Golf Union presented each of the Home Countries with a pair of beautifully boxed spoons, and Wales were quick to set up a national competition.

Wendy and Karen won through the preliminary round at their golf club and then went on to compete in the southern Regional Final held at Langland Bay Golf Club. There was stiff competition with over 50 pairs competing for a place in the final and Wendy and Karen played exceptionally well to post the second highest score of 36 points to secure their place in the final.

The event is being held at The Monmouthshire Golf Club on October 8.

The winning couple at the All Wales Final will be presented with the Australian Spoons and both players will receive a memento.

Wenvoe Castle Golf Club would like to pass on their congratulations to the pair for their success in the competition so far.
