Cadoxton v Bridgwater – Friendly

With Cadoxton missing a number of first team players for their annual mixed friendly against Bridgwater, they eventually slipped to a narrow defeat in a well contested encounter.

The result of the match was of no great importance, but for the record Jean Tuck skipped the only successful home rink, whilst Jim Davies fought out a well matched draw against his opposition. The other two rinks were defeated.

Thanks to Millwood, who helped out by allowing the Bridgwater club to bring a second team to fill up their coach.

Pam Bryant, G Solomon, D Evans, Jean Tuck 26-10

Cadoxton v Cyfarthfa Castle – CML5

Cadoxton made the long trip to Cyfarthfa Castle for their last away fixture, only to return with just one point against the league leaders.

Don Kuhnell skipped his rink well to keep the deficit to just three shots when a break for tea was made. Upon the restart, further good results took them into a four shot lead going into the final end, but unfortunately a ‘four’ was conceded to tie the match.

The decision to keep the same rink which had secured a big win last week failed to produce a similar success.

Having been level at 5-5, this had slipped to a 5-13 deficit by the break, which increased to 7-22 with four ends left. While the Cadoxton rink claimed victory in three of these, it was not enough to make any real dent in the scoreline.

Roy Harding’s rink had a terrible start and at the break had conceded 15 shots without scoring. They had the better of the remaining ends, but still ended well beaten.

Finally, Kelvin Chedgzoy had a good start on his rink and seemed to be in charge with the score at 7-3. However a ‘six’ against on the next took away their confidence and they failed to score during seven of the next eight ends. A spirited recovery during the final ends was not sufficient.

Cadoxton v St Peters – CML5

The sun shone as Cadoxton ended their league fixtures with a decisive home victory against St Peters, the win giving them 12 points to ensure a third place finish, just outside the promotion positions.

The start didn’t look too promising when Roy Harding’s rink conceded a ‘six’ and a ‘three’ on the opening ends and by the seventh end trailed 17-3.

However Don Kuhnell led his rink to a 12-1 advantage during the same period, and with the other two rinks closely contested, the game was tightly locked.

In an incredible turnaround, Roy’s rink produced six successful ends, including a ‘seven’, to take a 19-17 lead. The scoreline eventually ended 23 apiece.

During this recovery, Kuhnell’s rink failed to score on five ends and his advantage was reduced to 12-10. Nevertheless, after a winning single on the next, the mat was brought up and this manoeuvre allowed a home win of 21-13.

Kelvin Chedgzoy’s rink was a close encounter with the scores level on four, eight, nine and finally finished on 16 each. Howard Craven skipped the other rink and started slowly but improved to take the advantage for the first time on the tenth end, continuing to improve on it for the remainder of the game for a convincing victory.
