IT WAS midweek mayhem in the Vale league with a full fixture list that saw yet more twists and turns at this very early stage of the season.

The Premier Division has been blown wide open already, with many of the top sides taking points off each other.

Barry Athletic had won their opening two games, but it was Penarth Town who inflicted their first defeat, leapfrogging their opponents in the process to go top of the league with a 4-3 victory. FC Barry Belgrade bounced back after their weekend defeat with a 3-1 win away to Rhoose, while Island Marine sent Cowbridge Town to the bottom of the league with a 2-1 win. At this early stage of the season, just three points separate top and bottom.

In Division One, Sully Sports kept their perfect start to the season intact with a 3-1 derby victory over Cogan Coronation. Tynewydd secured a 3-1 win over Cardiff Airport to remain unbeaten and Cwm Talwg thumped Cadoxton Imps 5-2. Barry Saints played out a thrilling 4-4 draw with Cadoxton Athletic while Penarth B got their first win of the season in emphatic style with their 5-1 victory over SP Billy.

In Division Two, Cadoxton Barry made it three from three as they edged Rhoose B 3-2. Llantwit Major romped to a 5-2 derby win over St Athan B and are the only other side with a 100 per cent record, having played one game less than the leaders. BRT Dynamos went second with a 3-1 triumph over Island Marine seconds, while BV conceded eight for the second game in a row as Vale Madrid demolished them 8-1. Barry Albion got their second win on the bounce with a 2-1 away win over Glenbrook.

There are no league fixtures in Wales this weekend due to the Welsh international so the Vale league takes a weekend off, returning on September 9.
