Cadoxton Barry 3-2 Tonyrefail BGC

Oaten

Weekley

Donnelly

Despite Cadoxton Barry's overwhelming supremacy, they very nearly dropped all three home points, as they secured a 3-2 win over visitors Tonyrefail.

Casting one's mind back to last Tuesday's game against Cogan, in many ways it was a case of deja-vous. Then, after conceding a penalty to reduce the arrears, Cogan pressed for an equalizer for a short spell before a Morgan goal settled the jitters. This time the situation was even more desperate, as Cadoxton Barry trailed by two goals with just eight minutes left on the clock.

Immediately from the kick-off, Cadoxton held the ball in their own half before a ball from Morgan found Oaten, whose shot was well gathered by the 'keeper. And this set the pattern for the next eighty minutes - a case of almost constant bombardment being met by dogged and, at times, heroic Tonyrefail defending.

Yet it took just one breakaway attack in the fifteenth minute of the game for Ton to create a goal. It started with a long range free kick played in towards the left edge of the box, before being turned back into the middle for an incoming forward to make a sweet contact, driving low and hard past Warner in the Cadoxton Barry goal.

Then it was back to 'the Alamo', as Sansome fed a fine ball through to Oaten whose fierce drive was blocked on the line. An Adamson free kick into the box created a goalmouth skirmish, before Dawson's driving run through the middle of the park resulted in a shot that was well blocked. Shortly after, it was Dawson again who managed to test the keeper, turning and shooting in one movement after trapping an Adamson cross. By now, Cadoxton Barry's corner count was up in the teens, the latest seeing Sansome fire high above an open goal.

With only minutes remaining before half time Weekley came on in place of Adamson, and Ton earned a corner from the following move that had to be scrambled clear by the Cadoxton backline.

Cadoxton Barry resumed the almost relentless pressure swiftly after the break, but relent it did for one moment in the seventieth minute when a Ton throw in down the left flank was crossed in to the box, before being driven home under Warner's diving body to make it 2-0 to the visitors.

Throwing caution to the wind, Cadoxton Barry piled forward and it was not long before they found the goal that their perseverance merited.

A diagonal move across the park from left to right saw Weekley find Oaten near the right hand post, who drew the 'keeper out before skipping round him to score. But was there time for an equalizer? Yes there was.

With eighty-five minutes gone Oaten threaded through to Morgan, whose cross to the far left side was gathered by Weekley to stroke the ball past the onrushing 'keeper and into the net. But was there time for a winner? Yes there was.

Cadoxton Barry went forward from the re-start. The 'keeper managed to clear, but only to Donnelly in the middle of the box. Running towards the left, he fended off two challenges before beating the 'keeper at the far left post. And all Cadoxton Barry had to do then was wind down the clock for the final two minutes and all three points were theirs.

The game started at a fast pace with Cadoxton Barry doing much of the attacking, taking an early lead when Kinman saw his header flicked on for Taylor Jenkinson to round the 'keeper and pop it into an open net.

But the lead didn't last long, as later in the half Vale Madrid won a free kick on the edge of the box, with the ball cannoning off the rear of a Cadoxton defender and into the net.

Akerman's free kick shortly after forced the 'keeper into tipping his shot over the bar, with Sam Lewis heading home from the resulting corner to give Cadoxton Barry a 2-1 half time lead.

Cadoxton Barry continued to play well as a unit in the second half, culminating in the goal of the game - a 35 yard screamer from man-of-the-match, Jenkinson. Madrid did have their moments, which brought some fabulous saves from Peacock in the Cadoxton Barry goal.
