Cadoxton v Rhoose - Munro Cup

The difference in playing surface told for Cadoxton in their Munro Cup tie away to Rhoose, where the visitors found conditions difficult on the all-weather green, slumping to a heavy defeat.

Only Phil Ellis' rink made any impression for Cadoxton, and in fact the score had reached 10-0 in their favour after seven ends.

Unfortunately, this supremacy was to be shortlived, nevertheless they managed to hang on for a marginal 15-12 win.

Don Kuhnell’s rink meanwhile looked as though they would never score, with opposing skip Paul Williams displaying some superb bowling.

By the ninth end the deficit had reached 31 without reply, including four ‘sixes’. Eventually the break came when a drive with the final wood on the next end took out the shot wood, which had narrowly beaten Mike Curtis’ very close bowl. The mat was brought up and five further shots were scored in the final ends, with four against.

Jim Davies did stay within touching distance in the early ends against the experienced Les Parsons and led 9-8 after six ends, a ‘five’ and ‘three’ making up for the 'eight' against. Unfortunately, three further ‘fives' were conceded during the game, without which the contest would have been much closer.

Howard Craven’s rink won the majority of the ends, but with only singles to show for it, he too suffered defeat after being on the receiving end of two ‘sixes' and a ‘seven’ for the home side.

Fortunately the weather won out in the end, as darkness fell with three ends still to play, curtailing the game after 15 ends.

Cadoxton v Murch – Munro Cup

A superb performance from the rink skipped by Jim Davies produced a match winning result for Cadoxton, in this home fixture against Murch.

Davies restricted the Murch rink to scores on just four ends, as his rink took a comfortable 33-7 victory.

Roy Harding’s rink looked favourites to win after taking an 8-0 lead and staying in front until a ‘five’ against brought the scores level on the 19th end, followed by a ‘three’ on the next, failing to recover the deficit on the final end.

Don Kuhnell had to fight hard to keep in touch on his rink after dropping seven shots behind in the opening ends. The deficit was slowly eroded and a 14-12 advantage was obtained after 14 ends, but Cadoxton secured just a further two shots as they fell to a 24-16 defeat.

Howard Craven’s four trailed throughout the game without dropping too far behind, however with the aggregate very close, they rallied to score six shots in the closing stages to ensure the overall match winning score was achieved.
