BARRY Athletic First XI grabbed an important win away to Ebbw Vale this weekend, claiming a three-wicket victory over the hosts with just 14 balls to spare.
After winning the toss, Athletic chose to field against the league's bottom side who reached 184-9 from their 50 overs, with Nick Pepper Jnr. hitting 67 for Ebbw Vale.
Three wickets for Anwar, who took 3-25, ably supported by S. Ellis' 2-12 and A. Ellis' 2-28, helped restrict the Valleys side to a solid if unspectacular total.
In reply, Barry achieved their target with a little over two overs remaining, reaching 186-7 to snatch the win.
Lee Morgan managed 56 not-out, while captain for the day Shae Ellis hit 37 as Barry ran out winners by three wickets.
Meanwhile, Barry Athletic Second XI entertained Dinas Powys on the Island, securing a comfortable victory following a delayed 1pm start.
After some miracle work from the groundsman, Dinas Powys batted first and reached 130-6 from their 40 overs.
Barry reached their target with over 10 overs to spare, scoring 131-4 with captain Ashley Baker striking a fine 56 not-out. Sidath added 26, to help secure a valuable 18 point win.
This weekend Barry Athletic First XI entertain Whitchurch Heath on the Island, with the Seconds away to Malpas.
