AFTER an encouraging start at Jenner Park, Barry Town United hit the road this Saturday with Gavin Chesterfield's men set to travel to fellow top flight newcomers Prestatyn Town in a 2.30pm kick-off.

The JD Welsh Premier League fixture will be only the second meeting of the current Welsh League Division One and Cymru Alliance champions, with the hosts looking to bounce back from their opening defeat to Connah's Quay Nomads at Bastion Gardens last Friday.

In their previous encounter in April 2013, efforts from Andy Parkinson and Jason Price either side of half-time helped Prestatyn beat Barry to reach their first Welsh Cup final.

The men in red would go several steps further; beating Bangor City by three goals to one at Wrexham's Racecourse to capture the historic trophy, before embarking on a UEFA Europa League campaign that saw them topple Latvian opposition in a penalty shoot-out.

While goalscorers Parkinson and Price have since moved on, long-serving manager Neil Gibson remains from those heady days and the former Tranmere Rovers player will be well aware of the threat posed by Barry's TJ Nagi, whose equaliser in that game set the tone for the highly-competitive tie at Newtown's Latham Park.

This season however, it is precious Welsh Premier League points at stake, and with the likes of Bangor, Connah's Quay and others laying down the gauntlet with emphatic wins on matchday one, both Barry and Prestatyn will be eager to clinch their own first victory ahead of their encounters with TNS and Bangor respectively on August 25.

The Barry club will be selling return travel from Jenner Park this weekend, with supporters advised to contact the club on 07557 665 847 for availability.
