BARRY Romilly first team continued their good form, following up their win against Ystrad Mynach the previous week with another win away at Ferndale.

The 'Rom' were keen to make a positive start and by the fifth end were two shots ahead.

On a tricky green the Romilly rinks were coping well with only the rink of Jerry Daly/Fred Phillips/Mel Newman and skip Jeff Wright behind, trailing by nine shots at the end of the tenth.

Romilly's other rinks were playing well against good opposition, enabling the Rom to hold a slender three shot lead.

The second half began with brilliant bowling on all rinks and although the pressure was on Romilly, they managed to retain a two shot advantage at the fifteenth end.

It was Mike Doyle's rink of Kelvyn Mills/Terry Bloomfield and Gwynne Rees who were responsible for that lead, holding a seven shot advantage at this stage. Doyle was up against a top class skip in Ferndale's Paul Jones, but he was bowling superbly and denying the opposition any opportunity to close the gap.

The overall score going into the final six ends was 50-48 in Romilly's favour.

With the Rom holding such a slender lead they couldn't afford any slip ups and all rinks were battling hard. Wright's rink managed to win their last six ends by one shot and although Doyle's rink won, they dropped three shots in this period, hanging on to win 18-14.

It was the old master Brian Foscolo, ably assisted by Gary Eastment/Paul Swannick and Roger Jones who sealed the Rom's overall win by making a six on the 20th end, and a four on the final end to run out 26-13 winners.

Left on the green was the rink of Alun Bryan/Andrew Hatcher/Clive Collins and skip Graham Cogbill who were holding a one shot lead.

With the game already one, Cogbill was left needing to hang on to his lead for a further two points, but unfortunately this wasn't to be. The overall result was a superb 11 points for the Rom and three for Ferndale, with the final score ending 76-67.

In their last two games, Romilly have taken 23 points out of a possible 28, to ease any league concerns that they had.

Two more games are taking place this week, including a visit on Friday to Ystrad Mynach in a re-arranged encounter, followed by a home game with Troedyrhiw on Saturday.
