THE VALE of Glamorgan Council has given Barry Town United Football Club the go-ahead to use additional facilities at Jenner Park to boost revenue, ahead of their return to the Welsh Premier League.

Gavin Chesterfield’s men are gearing up for another crack at the domestic top flight after clinching the Welsh League Division One title last season.

With Barry Town United now re-establishing themselves on the pitch, The Vale Council is aiming to give the club a further lift behind the scenes by allowing them to lease the Jenner Park bar and skittle area.

As it has already done with the Jenner Suite, the club plans to refurbish these areas to a high standard and create a space that can be used by the club and the wider community.

The hope is that this will help to further increase the club’s appeal, attract more supporters and raise additional revenue.

There will also be an opportunity for the facilities to be used by the community for private functions.

Residents have voiced concerns over the increased demand for matchday car parking due to Barry Town United’s growing success and the extensive use of the Jenner Park facilities.

In order to address this, more use will made of the Devon Avenue car park on matchdays, while the possibility of providing additional space for visiting teams at the council’s Court Road Depot will be investigated later this year.

Consideration is also being given to the idea of creating a new car park at the former Civic Amenity site on Court Road.

A new state-of-the-art 3G pitch was laid at the ground in 2015, following a six-figure council investment.
