Cadoxton v Sully Sports - Munro Cup

Cadoxton's success in the Munro Cup continued with their victory at home to Sully Sports last week.

The visitors, unable to master the pace of the heavy green, were comprehensively beaten across all four rinks.

Whilst the home team excelled, special mention goes to Will Craven who adapted well playing in third position for the first time. The score was made up with numerous counts: three ‘3’s, two ‘4’s, two ‘5’s and a maximum ‘8’ on the penultimate end.

Skip Derek Jefferies' rink was a further resounding success, with John Papoutsou continuing his recent good form. They scored 17 shots before a single on the seventh end from the visitors stopped the run, but the remainder of the game was a similarly one-sided affair with Cadoxton conceding only five more shots whilst adding a further thirteen themselves.

Kelvin Chedgzoy found his opposition - skipped by Alan Collard - more of a threat. The score was tied on the sixth and eighth ends, but four winning ends put the visitors 13-6 ahead.

The advantage was gradually whittled away however, until the scores were levelled again by the 17th end.

Trailing by three shots coming in to the the last end, an outrageous ‘wick’ from Mike Curtis hit the jack into the open, and shots were added by Gordon and Kelvin for their rink's success.

Phil Ellis made his debut as skip against previous Cadoxton player, Nunky Brown. They had a fairly close start, but a ‘5’on the tenth end opened up a gap for the home side which allowed them to seal the win.

Cadoxton v St Peter's – ML5

Cadoxton started strongly on their trip to Roath Park in their search for a win against St Peters, leading on all rinks at the half-way stage.

The rinks skipped by Kelvin Chedgzoy and Don Kuhnell held healthy advantages of 20-8 and 18-4, whilst Howard Craven and Roy Harding also led 12-7 and 8-6 respectively.

Inexplicably however, the next six ends brought a collapse with just two successful ends from 24 across all rinks.

Despite Kelvin Chedgzoy managing a ‘5’ on his rink, safety went out of the window towards the end in an attempt to claw back the nine shot deficit. Consequently, a further four shots were dropped on Don Kubnell's rink that culminated in a disappointing defeat for Cadoxton.

E Heppenstall, J Papoutsou, G Davies, K Chedgzoy 33 – 21

J Stacey, I Heppenstall I Robertson, D Kubnell 24 – 21
