BARRY Athletic First XI entertained Cardiff Central on the Island on Saturday, losing by eight wickets.

Under the new stewardship of Billy Usswald, Barry were asked to bat first on a bright, sunny afternoon and were soon in difficulty after losing the wickets of Ellis, Anwar and Bruce with the score at only 14.

Former skipper Nathan Baker came to the crease and alongside Lee 'The Wall' Morgan, they proceeded to compile a 110 run partnership to bring some much-needed stability to the Barry innings.

Baker was eventually out after scoring a patient 57, before Morgan became the fifth man out for 56 shortly after, as Barry reached 164-5 from their 50 overs.

In reply, Cardiff Central reached 166-2 with A.Ilyas scoring 63 and K.Ilyas making 69, with Simon Phillips' 2-13 not enough to prevent the visitors from running out comfortable winners.

Barry Athletic Second XI also suffered a defeat at the weekend, losing by 65 runs away to Brecon.

Batting first, the hosts reached 253-7 with J.Morgan making 53, despite Guni's figures of 4-55 for Barry.

In reply, Barry were 188 all-out with Guni (35) and Rokad (33) the main contributors. Starkey ended with figures of 3-41 for Brecon.

This weekend Barry Athletic First XI travel to Cardiff to face Lisvaine, while the Second XI take on Blackwood on The Island. Both games are due to start at 12.30pm.
