The Whitchill Hotel have been crowned cup winners in the Vale of Glamorgan pool league following a hard fought win over Cocopops.

After taking a 2-1 lead in the singles, Cocopops were pegged back thanks to wins from Chris Bardsley, Lawrence Klee and Joe 90, leaving Whitchill 4-2 in front going into the scotch doubles.

Pair Kyle Power and county player Mike Dunn took the first game to reduce the deficit to one frame, before Ryan Rowlands and James Hill secured an impressive final frame win.

Left with two reds remaining and a hidden black ball, Ryan spent a full minute assessing his options before expertly dispatching the first red, then the second to give him perfect positioning on the black. Ryan potted with relative ease to give Whitchill the win in an enthralling final, securing this season's R&M Mobile Valeting cup trophy.

The county team remain on course for promotion after a well earned win against Porthcawl by 21-15. The Vale struggled in the first two sessions, but turned things around in sessions three and four to snatch the win. Ian Hill and Graham Avaient performed strongly throughout and it is also they who continue to lead the averages table.

Next Sunday, July 9, is the scotch doubles semi-finals and final at the Billy in Barry, starting at 7pm. Gavin Rowlands and Wayne Hobson from the Castle Hotel remain in the draw, along with Mark Ingram and Billy United teammate John Farrugia. Jamie Stanton and Ian Hill, along with Ryan Rowland and James Hill from Whitchill complete the lineup.

The league would like to thank Harry Asprou from Asprou Barbers in Park Crescent for his sponsorship of a silver trophy for the league singles champion.

Presentation night is Saturday, July 15 at the king William IV pub in Cadoxton, where there will be a live band performing after the presentation and a late bar.

The new season begins on Thursday, August 3, adopting a format of 12 frames split between singles and doubles, with a start time of 8pm every week.

Men and women of all abilities are invited to join. For more information or to register a team, text Joe on 07870 498738, or phone Anthony on 07568 444180.
