The Charity Day is always a special event in the Club Calendar and provides a major opportunity to raise funds for the Club Captain’s nominated charity which this year is The Stroke Association Cardiff.

The Club Captain, Dr Dai Dayananda, was delighted with the support he received on the day with over 160 entries virtually filling all the tee times available throughout the morning and afternoon.

The main competition was a team event in a stableford format with the best three score to count on each hole. In addition there were prizes for any ‘2’ recorded and as a warm up a special putting competition was organised. In addition there was a prize for nearest the pin on the 2nd hole and a huge reward for any hole in one recorded on the 15th hole.

White Dove (Seat) provided the special prize of a new car for any hole in one on the day but unfortunately despite many and some very close attempts the prize was not won. The Club appreciated this very kind gesture which certainly added great interest during the course of the day.

The winning team, with an impressive 127 points, were Mike Chick, Jack Walsh, David Vaughan and Graham Robinson

Second place with 123 points were Rob Gillard, Dennis Davies, Robin White and Dominic Sullivan

Third place with 122 points were Nick Caulfield, Pat Regan, Kevin Knowles and Dean Rowlands

Leigh Ivory (2nd) , Kevin Knowles (15th) and Dean Rowlands (15th) were successful in the two's competition.

Nearest the Pin (2nd hole) was Dr Derek Jones (2.7 metres)

The Putting Competition winners were Helen Hughes, Mike James and Les Covell.

The Captain in making the presentation gave particular thanks to Mark Wilshire, Head Greenkeeper and his team for presenting the course in an excellent condition.

Special thanks also went to the Ladies Section for their invaluable contribution in running the competition and the welcome refreshments at half way house throughout the busy day. The Captain also made special mention of the support received from his wife Sue and in particular the funds raised from the 'Wine Pull'.

The Club Secretary and Club Professional, together with bar and catering staff, were also thanked for their efforts throughout the day which resulted in over £3300 being raised for the Club Captain's nominated charity.

The final total included a number of kind donations from members and all those involved will know the real winners on the day will be the charity.

Well done Wenvoe Castle!
