BARRY Town United have confirmed their third Summer signing in the form of highly-rated midfielder Elliot Scotcher from Aberystwyth Town.

The former Wales U16 and U17 international joins fellow new recruits Kayne McLaggon and Sam Jones at Jenner Park, as the club's pre-season preparations begin to take shape ahead of Barry's first campaign back in the Welsh Premier League since 2004.

Scotcher was formerly a scholar at Championship club Ipswich Town, arriving at Portman Road during Roy Keane's stint as manager, before returning to South Wales to enrol at Cardiff Met University where he became an important part of their own climb of the Welsh pyramid.

After graduating, Elliot then signed for Merthyr Town of the Evo-Stik League, before switching to Aberystwyth in January.

Also formerly of Cardiff City, 23-year old Scotcher commented: "I'm delighted to have joined such a progressive club at an important moment in its history.

"After speaking with Gavin Chesterfield and hearing his plans it was a straightforward decision for me to join.

"I've played with or against a number of the lads in the squad previously and I'm looking forward to seeing what we can achieve together this season".

Barry manager Gavin Chesterfield said he looked forward to seeing Scotcher in action for the club next season.

"Throughout our discussions, Elliot has shown a real desire to be part of our club and what we are about," said Chesterfield.

"He is a player who fits our philosophy and style very well and will add further creativity and quality to our midfield.

"I'm looking forward to working with Elliot and helping him fulfill his undoubted potential."

Chesterfield has put together a pre-season fixture programme that will see them stay largely close to home, as his squad gets set to rack up the miles across the coming season.

Barry's opening friendly will be at Jenner Park on Saturday 15 July, as the Welsh League Division One champions host last season's rivals Goytre.

A tough first test for the WPL newcomers, Goytre were the only team to complete a league double over Barry in their 2016-17 championship campaign.

The Town then travel to runners-up Penybont on Tuesday 18 July, before heading to play Goytre United at Glanhafod Park on Saturday 22 July.

After welcoming Newport County to Jenner Park on Tuesday 25 July, a further friendly yet to be confirmed is pencilled in for the following weekend.

The club will wrap up its preparations at Ely Rangers on Saturday 5 August, with the Welsh Premier League campaign kicking off the following week.

Tickets for Barry's friendly with League 2 Newport are on sale at barry.ticketsource.co.uk, with the Exiles expected to field a full strength line-up at Jenner Park next month.
