THE first weekend of May was a busy one for Barry Community Tennis Club’s teams with the 8u players visiting Penarth Windsor Lawn Tennis Club.

The 12u boys and the ladies teams hosted Usk Tennis Club and Llantwit Major Tennis Club respectively.

The 8u team played with great energy and enthusiasm, and are continuing to develop with each fixture, while the 12u Boys Danny Mickelsen and Noah Barrago refused to concede even a single game in their three matches, winning their doubles match 6-0, 6-0, and repeating that score in each of their singles matches as well.

Despite the score, the visitors remained upbeat and enjoyed a post-match picnic in Romilly Park before going to enjoy some of the local sights before returning to Usk.

The ladies team, playing their ‘sister’ club Llantwit Major Tennis Club - also part of the Vale Tennis Academy coaching programme - eventually won all four of their matches, but it was a very closely fought fixture with one match going to a deciding tie-break and a total court time of just over three hours in beautiful spring sunshine.

The ladies also enjoyed a post-match picnic, and both teams are looking forward to the return fixture in a few weeks’ time, because it was such a well-matched fixture with great sportsmanship on both sides.
