BARRY Town’s Under 16 Girls completed a great season at the weekend by adding the South Wales League Cup to their League winning campaign and South Wales FA Cup honours making it a treble winning season.

Going into the League Cup final against Abertysswg, Barry were in confident mood having already secured the South Wales FA Cup the previous weekend but they didn’t have everything their own way in this encounter.

Abertysswg took an early lead with a great free kick which went in off the post to stun Barry into action. The Vale based club responded superbly, Sian Rees levelling the scores with a well taken finish before the hard working Emma Cannon rounded the keeper and bundled the ball over the line to put Barry in the lead after 20 minutes.

At this point Barry started to produce some excellent attacking football and raced into a 5-1 lead on the half hour mark, Rees notching up another two goals and striker Aliyah Jama finding the net to put Barry in the driving seat.

Abertysswg bounced back with a second goal just before half time with a well finished effort from Caitlin Davies to make it 5-2 to Barry at the break.

The second half didn’t see as much goalmouth action as Barry were happy to dictate possession although Abertysswg were causing problem on the counter attack and got a third goal with a header at the near post from a corner with 20 minutes to go.

To their credit, Barry controlled the last period of the game comfortably and could have further extended their lead as both Rees and Jama went close but Rees had the final say in the last minute with a well taken shot that lobbed over the goalkeeper from 25 yards to make it 6-3 at full time.

The result completes a fantastic season for a squad that has shown great consistency, resilience and togetherness. Next weekend the team will play their final league match of the season where they will attempt to maintain their 100% winning record for the season.
