Barry Town Ladies 6

Penybont Ladies 0

ON A pleasant sunny day in Barry, Jenner Park was the perfect setting for the 1st team's final game, of what has been a solid season.

Penybont Ladies lined-up with a few new and familiar faces having made some recent signings since the teams last met.

Having drawn 3 - 3 with league leaders Caldicot just days earlier, they looked sure to give Barry a hard contested, tight game.

With Barry Town United Ladies at full strength for the second and third clash, it was the home side that started the brighter playing some lovely flowing football on the slick Jenner Park surface.

A couple of early corners were cleared by the resilient Bridgend outfit.

With 10 minutes on the clock, captain Stevie Cook whipped in a lovely corner for the lively Naomi Coulson to find the back of the net to give Barry an early confidence boost.

That gave Barry the lift off to keep scoring.

More quality football allowed goal machine Luca Laky to break through and put the hosts 2 - 0 up. Barry were keeping the ball well, and making it extremely difficult for the away side to get a foothold in the game.

Tracey White, Meg Bailey and captain Cook pulling the strings and it was another great ball from Cook that set Ellen Phillips through, and she finished with aplomb in the top right hand corner.

Barry went into half-time 3 - 0 up.

The second half produced very much the same, and Barry looked very comfortable against a decent outfit that had only lost two league games all season up until this match.

Goalkeeper Megan Davies was looking as reliable as ever, and destined to add another clean sheet. Emma Thompson, Emily Mortimore and Shanice Donovan looked solid and assured.

The Barry defensive unit has been a solid foundation during this season.

Ellie Drew and Coulson were constantly giving the Penybont full backs a torrid time with some superb energy and end product continuing the creativity at Jenner Park.

Strikers Phillips and Laky both added a second goal each before Cook then completed the rout by scoring a penalty with the last kick of the game.

The final score was 6 - 0.

Barry Town United Ladies finish the season second and two points behind champions Caldicot.

It's been a very good season for the senior side. The team will continue training throughout the summer, with plenty of friendlies lined-up.

Trials for the 1st and Development team are being held on Sunday, July 2, at Jenner Park from 10am to 1pm. All players welcome.
