RISING Dragons Tae Kwon Do, based in Barry, competed in the annual Welsh Kickboxing Union's Welsh Rumble held at Fairwater Leisure Centre, Cardiff.

With more than 300 competitors registered, this was going to be a busy day for the young fighters and their coaches.

The event started with patterns/kata/forms involving students from various disciplines of martial arts, success for Rising Dragons came in the form of a first place for Oakley Allen and a third place for Charlie Rogers.

Next up it was onto the point fighting mats where, up against some tough opposition, the students fought their way through the competition with Thea Cunningham coming away with a first place.

Cameron Evans, Charlie Rogers, Matthew Bennett and Keita Enfield all finished with creditable second places in their respective categories.

Cian Allen lost out to the eventual winner in the early rounds. Oakley Allen put on a great display but lost out to a more experienced competitor.

The final events of the day were the light continuous fighting categories where again the Rising Dragons students put on some powerful displays of controlled martial arts.

Cian Allen and Thea Cunningham dominated their categories and both came away with first place trophies, Cody Jacobsen put aside his disappointment of a narrow defeat in points to come away with a tough fought second place trophy.

Cameron Evans started well but retired injured after being winded, Charlie Rogers stood her ground in a hard fight, but the judges decision went against her.

This now brings an end to a successful Rising Dragons tournament campaign for 2016, moving into this month they have the end of year award ceremony to look forward to.
