A GROUP of young coaches from the Vale of Glamorgan have started their coaching journey by joining the Council's Coaches of the Future scheme.

The launch took place at Barry's Civic Offices with special guest Brett Morse. The international discus thrower talked to the group about the significant impact various coaches have had on his career thus far.

The young coaches, who have been selected from various areas across the Vale of Glamorgan, represent a wide range of sports, and have already started their training by undertaking the community sports leaders level 2 and first aid courses.

Over the next couple of months they will also undertake National Governing Body coaching awards to equip them with the skills to be able to deliver more sports to more young people.

The young coaches are already putting their skills to the test, with the aim to help more young people become more active, by volunteering in Vale clubs.

The Coaches of the Future scheme is an Olympic legacy programme aiming to help inspire a generation of participants and coaches in sport.

The programme also highlights the Vale of Glamorgan Council’s Sports and Play Development Team’s commitment to growing a skilled and passionate workforce.

The scheme is designed to give young people the opportunity to develop their interest in sports leadership and coaching and provides a structured programme of training alongside coaching.

Anyone wanting more information about the scheme can contact Rachel Shepherd, and the sports and play team at the Vale council on 07730 749485.
