Women’s Welsh League

Barry Town Utd Ladies 10 - Newcastle Emlyn 0

BOTH teams went into this fixture with players missing through injury or suspension but visiting Newcastle Emlyn looking more depleted, after the long journey.

Ellie Drew and Georgia Peplow returned from injury for Barry and the home side started the game on the front foot, dominating the midfield, and taking an early lead for the second week in a row.

Hungarian striker, Luca Laky got the opener continuing her recent good form following on from her hat-trick last week and was a constant threat to the visitors defence.

With Barry controlling the majority of possession, Emlyn dropped deeper and deeper staying tight and compact trying to frustrate the hosts.

The visitors did produce an effort at goal early on but were thwarted by an excellent save from Barry goalkeeper, Megan Davies.

Barry, captained by the influential Stevie Cook were relentless with wave after wave of attacks resulting in a comprehensive victory against a team who were plying their trade in the Welsh Premier last season.

The matched finished 10 - 0 to Barry, which included some superb team goals, and excellent individual efforts.

Laky finished with four goals making it seven in her last two appearances and she is clearly enjoying her new role in the team.

Former Welsh Premier striker Ellen Philips returned to goal scoring form with a fine hat-trick.

A special mention to Stacey Ayling and Naomi Coulson netting their first goals for the club with Robyn Hall rounding off things with a goal to her name.

Emma Thompson has also showed her great experience since recently signing for the club.

The result puts Barry in third place in the Women’s Welsh League sitting just a point outside of the promotion places with a mouth-watering visit to league leaders Caldicot Town next week.
