Caerau Ely 1 - Barry Town United 1

AS THE Welsh League Division One season rolls on into December, all remains to play for at the top end of the table, with challengers Barry Town United and current leaders Goytre both held to frustrating draws on November's final weekend.

Faced with a traditionally tricky trip to near neighbours Caerau Ely, the fourth-placed Town had led for much of their Saturday outing, with striker James Dixon capitalising on TJ Nagi's assist to hand Gavin Chesterfield's travelling team a welcome first half advantage.

However, Welsh League mainstay Rameer Outlaw's equaliser, with only three minutes remaining, helped the battling home side snatch their share of the spoils, in what was a competitive 1 - 1 encounter at Cwrt-Yr-Ala.

Having coped well for much of the match, Barry's late agony was confounded by the loss of forward Dixon, who was issued a second yellow card mere moments before the full-time whistle.

Nevertheless, all was far from lost when news filtered in of Goytre's result, the pacesetters pegged back to a 2 - 2 draw at Haverfordwest County.

As a result, the lay of the land in division one remains much as it was a week ago, with Barry standing six points behind, while holding two games in hand.

This Saturday, Goytre travel to Welsh Premier League outfit Llandudno in the Welsh Cup second round, while Barry's scheduled league meeting with Cambrian and Clydach was postponed on Monday, after players Chris Hugh and Tyrell Webbe were chosen to represent Wales at the weekend's Futsal Home Nations Championship.

Finally, the club was saddened to learn of the death of long-time supporter Bryn Matthews last week.

A real character of the grandstand and a former Jenner Park announcer, Bryn attended his first Barry fixture in the 1940s and continued to show his matchday enthusiasm into the current season.
