PRESENTATION Night is always a special occasion at Wenvoe Castle Golf Club where members gather to congratulate and the winners of a variety of club competitions receiving their richly deserved trophies.
Club champion Matt Mullooly was delighted to receive his trophy from club captain Paul Coombes and gave praise to the runner-up Keith Stimpson for a match played in such excellent spirit.
Matt also thanked the club membership for making him feel so welcome in his first year.
Matt also took the opportunity to thank the head green keeper and the green staff for presenting the course in superb condition not only on the day but throughout the year.
Lady champion Sheila Morrow received her trophy from the lady captain Sandra Hathway and similarly paid tribute to the runner-up Jane Lott for a great match the result of which could have gone either way.
Sheila gave special mention to her caddie Leslie Sherrard whose support and advice on the day proved to be an invaluable contribution to her success. It was a special year for Sheila in reaching four finals and to win three was a tremendous achievement.
There was a glittering display of silverware and once again vice president Colin Champ showed considerable stamina in announcing the winners and in total 37 trophies presented for the various men’s, ladies and mixed competitions.
Some competitions were settled on the day but several knock-out competitions lasted over many rounds throughout the summer months and the winners had certainly earned their rewards particularly their names engraved in gold leaf on the honours boards.
The club captain Paul Coombes thanked all the members who had entered and supported the competitions and also paid tribute to the efforts of the green staff who presented the course in such fine condition throughout the year.
He also thanked the bar and catering staff for the excellent service on the evening with a special appreciation of the efforts of Julie Staples and club steward Simon Gatheridge who had diligently polished each and every trophy on display.
