BARRY Town United will challenge The New Saints in the Nathaniel MG Cup Final on Saturday, January 21, 2017, after the unbeaten Welsh Premier League champions confirmed their place in the national final with a 1 - 0 win at Connah's Quay Nomads on Tuesday evening.

Scott Quigley's ninth-minute strike proved the match-winner for Craig Harrison's Saints, seven days after their original meeting at the Deeside Stadium was dramatically abandoned with the score at 2 - 2; a casualty of severe fog.

Despite a gallant effort from the Nomads, Tuesday's result in North Wales now sets up a tantalising showdown between the record-breaking eight-time winners and the former five-time holders, to be contested at a venue to be confirmed.

With everyone at Jenner Park looking forward to the club's first appearance in the final since 2001, the Town remain in contention to challenge for Welsh League Division One honours and bolstered their title aspirations with a solid 2 - 0 win over Taffs Well at the weekend.

Jordan Cotterill, whose powerful free-kick against Carmarthen secured Barry's final appearance, stroked home the first half opener, with strike partner TJ Nagi finishing the job after the break, side-footing home after good work from teammate Tyrell Webbe.

Gavin Chesterfield's team, who travel to Caerau Ely this Saturday in a 2pm kick-off, now sit fourth in the table; six points behind leaders Goytre, with two games in hand.

Goytre face the lengthy trek to Haverfordwest County this weekend, while second-placed Cambrian and Clydach and third-placed Afan Lido are both at home, against in-form Penybont and Risca United respectively.

Barry's next Welsh League outing at Jenner Park will be a re-arranged fixture against Cambrian and Clydach on Saturday, December 3 at 2pm.
