BOTH the old and the new were honoured at Cadoxton Bowling Club's awards presentation evening.

The club's youngest member, Ewan Heppenstall, received the Personality of the Year award and also won the Novice Competition.

Club president Les Cundliffe said that: “Ewan is one of the most enthusiastic youngsters ever to join the club”.

Another new member, John Papoutsou, was also successful in his first year, winning the Triples Competition in company with club secretary David Fanning and club treasurer Don Kuhnell, one of the club's longest-standing members.

Club captain Howard Craven and his son, Will Craven, won the Pairs Competition. Again successful in his first year of membership, Will Craven won the Championship Competition and will represent the club in a series of matches next season against club champions from other bowling clubs across South Wales. Stalwart member Roy Harding continued his successful defence of the Jack Hartman competition title.

President of the South Vale District Bowling Association David Fanning said that the quality and standard of those and other award-winners honoured on the night demonstrated “the enduring stature of the 108-year-old Cadoxton Bowling Club and the considerable interest in lawn bowling across the Vale of Glamorgan”.

He urged everyone – young and old, male and female, especially the disadvantaged and the disabled – to take the plunge and join the bowling community.

“It’s a tremendous activity, providing valuable exercise, wide social experience, and a great deal of competitive enjoyment,” Fanning added.
