PENARTH Gymnastics Men’s Disability members for under-21s, over-21s cleaned up the medals at the Poole Open Disability Competition taking 14 medals out of the 15 available to them.

The weekend saw the team set out from the gymnastics centre in Ty Verlon Estate, Barry, on Saturday for the drive down to Poole in Dorset where they had a leisurely evening in the hotel with other gymnasts from around the country, catching up with some old and new friends.

The competition started at 9am on Sunday with the team not taking part until after lunch. First to go were the U21 level 1gymnast David Melly who travels twice a week from Cardiff and Daffyd Williams who travels from Chepstow each week to train at Penarth Gymnastics Centre.

The first apparatus was vault with David Melly and Daffyd Williams taking joint silver. In parallel bars David Melly took the top spot with an excellent performance with Daffyd Williams following closely behind. On floor, once again David Melly put in another excellent routine with Daffyd Williams following in silver position

Then the competition moved on to the Over-21s with all three gymnasts being from Barry. The first apparatus was floor which saw Gareth Lloyd take the gold with a good clean performance, Kiaran Parsons took silver and James Savory took bronze. Vault was won by James Savory taking gold, Gareth Lloyd in silver position and Kiaran Parson finishing in fourth place.

The final apparatus was the parallel bars where Gareth Lloyd took the gold, James Savory silver, and Kiaran Parson bronze in another closely fought round. These three men are consistently changing places on every apparatus at every competition they attend and this was no exception to that.

The team now return to the Penarth Gymnastics Centre Ty Verlon Estate, Barry, to train for the next competition under the watchful eye of club leader Gywnedd Lingard MBE.
