Penrhiwceiber Cons Athletic 2 - Cadoxton Barry FC 0

Goals: Evans, Davies

A FLAWLESS first half of officiating belied what was to come in the second half when star home players Evans and Davies and others seemed to have special dispensation to handle as many balls as they liked and, if beaten to the ball, regularly pull back their opponent with the discrete use of a hand on the shoulder.

A positive start saw Oaten cross for Dawson to fire straight at the 'keeper's feet. But gradually Penrhiwceiber began to take control, a dip towards CB's left post not going far wide. Then Oaten trapped a ball which he crossed to Thompson whose dipper was only just over. Penrhiwceiber were now getting more of the ball and the possession that CB did get couldn't be converted into any flowing moves of substance, though a Thompson cross was met by Sansome who fired just wide of a post.

But Penrhiwceiber got their deserved half-time lead when a dip from the right rebounded back into play from the cross bar before Evans raced in to return the ball with interest into the open net.

It took only three minutes of the second half for Penrhiwceiber to double their lead when a long and low ball through the field found Davies to curl a low shot home off the inside of the CB post just beyond the reach of Carpenter's despairing dive.

But a change in the style of the second half decision making was becoming noticeable as the aforementioned hand balls and shoulder grabbings became more and more frequent from the home side. But it was not all in one direction, as in the situation when a Penrhiwceiber ball in their own half ricocheted forward off a CB player to set up a likely looking Penrhiwceiber goal in a one on one situation. However, CB red faces were saved when, to the frustration of the home players, the whistle blew for off side.

Later Konten did well to stay cool when he beat the 'keeper to the ball before advancing on goal with the ball at his feet. The keeper chased back and appeared to impede him. But instead of the expected penalty, a finger was pointed in the other direction for a free kick.

Penrhiwceiber were now playing the more flowing game and no doubt would have won without those clever little hand balls and tug backs. At the same time CB's possession continued to be scrappy, though there was a late opportunity for substitute Harris.

In front of goal in the middle of the box, he received a cross from the right, but the need for a second touch before firing gave the excellent home 'keeper just time enough to adjust before making the save that saw his side home to a deserved 2 - 0 victory.

Next Saturday Cadoxton Barry are home to Ynyshir in a league match. Kick-off 2.30pm
