Old Penarthians 19 - Barry RFC 2nds 62

AFTER a slow start to their season, Barry RFC 2nd XV travelled the short distance to local rivals Old Penarthians on Saturday, September 17, for the first round of the East District Cup, hoping to reverse their fortunes.

Coach Rhidian Scott and caretaker manager Glyn Pirso were boosted by the return of several absentees, and the squad saw a balance of forward power and finesse out wide.

Barry soon found that they had the advantage out wide, and with captain Joel Williams at fly half pulling the strings, they soon put their hosts' to the sword.

This is not to say that the pack were mere bystanders; Barry were also dominant up front with Chris Deyes particularly outstanding, especially in the line out.

Late inclusion Brad White took full advantage of his side's dominance, running in four tries to add to his personal haul against the same opposition two years ago.

Chris Chucas, on his first start of the season, bagged a brace, whilst Luke Bounds, another one to play his first game this campaign, also crossed.

Dylan Robertson bagged himself a try and five conversions before he was withdrawn from the action.

Joel Williams and Dave Evans also crossed the try-line as Barry completed the rout and ease into the next round of the cup competition where they will face Pontyclun away on October 8.
