CARDIFF Airport Football Club started life in the South Wales Alliance Division Two with a short trip to Llanishen to face St Joseph’s on Tuesday, August 13.

After a tentative start Airport were soon into their stride with Jermaine Martyn terrorising the home side defence and after winning a corner in the tenth minute, Airport took the lead, Michael Hall’s deep corner was met with a towering header at the far post by Michael Fallas.

Both sides were then guilty of squandering decent chances before the half ended.

The second half started in the same vain as the first but it was a controversial goal that allowed St Joseph’s to equalise on the hour with a St Joseph’s player down in agony on the edge of the penalty area and calls for the ball to be kicked out, Airport doing the decent thing stopped and when attempting to clear the ball into touch to allow for treatment a St Joseph’s player intercepted and fired home.

This did not go down too well but recovering their composure Airport struck within 60 seconds of the restart. Dave Stephenson making his debut drew a foul on the half-way line which Ricky Perry hit high into the box, Michael Hall had the leap on the defender and advancing 'keeper to flick the header into the net.

With the score on 2 - 1 it should have been 3 - 1 when a slick move and pin point cross from Martyn found Theo Richards unmarked but his header was narrowly over the bar.

It was not until the dying moments the outcome of this game was decided with a controversial penalty for St Joseph’s in the 88th minute. The striker went down off the ball and some three yards outside the penalty area but the referee decided it was a penalty which St Joseph’s converted, in the aftermath and amid frustrations Mitchel Taylor Moore was then shown a second yellow and the game ended with the honours even.

On Saturday, August 20, Cardiff Airport travelled to Bargoed for the second league game of the season.

With first team regulars Liam Davies/Aaron Malpas and Dimitri Fallas unable to travel Lewis Wride and the returning Gareth Powner were called into the squad.

Lewis Wride was given the nod to start and took his chance in style. Airport quickly had the measure of their opponents and wave after wave of attacks and secure defending and midfield dominance soon proved too much for Bargoed after some slick midfield play.

Jermaine Martyn found himself in space and fired towards the goal, the 'keeper could only parry it straight to Michael Hall who scored from close range.

The move of the match then brought the goal of the game starting with 'keeper Bradley Walters working from the back to Theo Richards who caused havoc running at the defence and his pin point cross found the leaping Wride who headed into the top corner.

Martyn had another chance well saved and Bargoed were thankful for the half-time break, however the break did them no good and the Airport were hungry for more.

A spate of corners came to nothing in the second half but in the 60th minute another run by Richards down the right and a low cross was missed at the near post by the Bargoed defence and Wride again pounced from close range for his second of the game.

Taylor-Moore and Powner were introduced for Paget and Michael Baker who was removed purely because he was getting married the next morning. It was not long before the fourth goal came with another searching run from midfield by Stephenson and a low ball into the box from Wride, then Powner up from right back smashed home from 12 yards out to make it 4 - 0.

There was still time for a late consolation goal and a huge deflection from a free kick brought the game to a close. Four points in two games is a great start to the new campaign. Cardiff Airport 2nds started their Vale of Glamorgan Division One league campaign at a very wet and windy Swanbridge. With Cardiff Airport having the gale force winds at their back they got off to a great start, leading 2 - 0.

With some great pressure from the Airport the ball found its way to Aaron Malpas near the edge of the box to smash it in for 1 - 0. Cardiff Airport continued the pressure with some great work from Max Jones closing the 'keeper for the ball to fall to Jordan who calmly slotted it in for 2 - 0 to Cardiff Airport.

With the game well and truly being dominated by the Airport, making full use of the wind with good football putting Sully under a lot of pressure.

Sully found their feet a little against the run of play as they drilled a low cross through the Airport defence to be tapped in making it 2 - 1.

Airport responded quickly with great play down the right hand side from two of the new youth lads. Joe Western on his debut put the ball in the net with a calm finish.

From there, Airport tried to kick on with Max Jones hitting the post and then another opportunity finding the net for the goal to be ruled offside.

Cardiff Airport did not learn their lesson from the first Sully goal and again Sully played the ball down the right hand side to drill another low cross again found by the Sully attackers putting the score at 3 - 2.

The second half was hard as Sully now had the wind on their backs and the Airport team trying to stand firm from a lot of pressure.

A corner was conceded and from there the ball found the top left hand corner of the Airport net bringing the game all square. Again the Airport team pulled together and absorbed a lot of the Sully pressure clearing the ball and running it out at every opportunity.

The game was at grid lock as the Airport were standing strong until a lapse of concentration and some good pressure from Sully. A short pass found the Sully striker who put the ball away ending the match 4 - 3 in Sully's favour.
