IN A rain affected game at Victoria Park on August 3, Cadoxton Bowls Club overcame Sully by the narrowest margin of one shot in Munro Cup.

At the 15th end a tremendous downpour had everyone scurrying to get their wet gear on. It was then agreed to finish the 16th end to finalise the game.

Cadoxton held a five shot advantage at this stage. During the agreed final end the rain became even worse and everyone was pleased to get off the green, after Sully had decreased the difference to just one shot.

On August 6, Cadoxton travelled to Penyrheol hoping to secure the double after winning the home game by a solitary shot. Unfortunately the result was reversed with a single shot win for the hosts in a ML5 match.

There were two successful rinks and two losers. Howard Craven won five of the first 10 ends with his team, but trailed 5 – 8. At this stage a four took him in front for the first time.

After dropping behind by one shot on the 16th, a three closely followed by a six were scored to ensure success for the visitors.

Roy Harding’s rink had a good start by taking a 9 - 1 advantage after six ends. By the 15th end the score had reached 17 – 7 in their favour, but unfortunately a six against narrowed the gap.

However they finished with three shots to each side in the remaining ends.

On Don Kuhnell's rink the front players took a bit of time to settle on a tricky green and trailed by 9 – 0 after five ends. On the next end the visitors skip turned the head over to make a four to get their first score on the board.

They continued to struggle throughout the game but managed to keep the losses mainly to singles.

John Jones had a steady start with his four holding a 7 - 6 lead at the half-way stage. A bad four ends, when 11 shots were conceded opened a gap, and although they finished strongly the recovery was not enough.

Being the last rink on they were aware that four shots were required for victory on the final end, which they thought they held, until the measure came out and there were only two counting bowls.
