RUNNERS from across the Vale of Glamorgan will be putting on their running shoes and taking part in the Llantwit Major 10k on Saturday, August 27.

Although most will be local and from across the Vale, some are entering from as far afield as Caerphilly, Carmarthen and parts of England.

Although it is an event for Llantwit Major, several people who are members of Barry Park Run, Barry and Vale Harriers and Barry based SMR runners are helping with the behind the scenes organisation and marshalling.

It sees the second edition of the Llantwit Major 10k, 5k and 1k series of races.

After the success of the event in 2015 the organisers felt obliged to do it all over again. Feedback from competitors was fantastic with many taking to social media to express their enjoyment.

The race headquarters is at Llantwit Major Rugby Club with luggage drop at the Llantonian Hall and start line on Ham Lane for the 10k and 5k races. The start times are slightly altered from last year with the 5k at 10am, the 10k at 11am and the 1k at 12.30pm, in order to make the event more compact and reduce road closures as far as possible.

The headline race is the 10k and takes in the heritage coast on a route that is more than 8km off road.

The 5k race is typically for those who are new to running or do not feel confident enough to do a full 10k race. The 1k is entirely within the rugby fields and ideal for younger or older competitors. This year the event sees entries - so far - from six to 66-year-olds, and a good mix of males and females. All ages and abilities are welcome.

This event is organised by people who are passionate about running who wish to encourage all generations to get active and just maybe enjoy running.

Local businesses are again assisting the event with sponsorship, time and goods. Every bit of support is greatly received for what is intended to be a community event and forms the first event in a packed weekend culminating in the Party on the Pitch on Sunday.

For more information go to the event website at llantwitmajor10k.co.uk or the event Facebook page, just search Llantwit Major 10k.

Places for all races have limits, with many runners having entered already, so it is advised to register as soon as possible.
