Cadoxton Barry FC 5 (Jackhontaw 2, Sansom, Morgan, Thompson)

Garw 3 (Jones, Williams, James)

PLAYED at Jenner Park, Cadoxton Barry made a slow start in this, the first of their pre-season friendly matches, and soon found themselves a goal down.

A cross field ball from the left was returned towards the near post where Jones was on hand to drive home via the underside of the bar. Garw continued to get the better of the exchanges well into the third as a goalkeeper's clearance found open space to the left of the CB half.

‘Keeper, Harker looked favourite to win the race to the ball but then backed off to allow the advancing Williams the opportunity to dip a shot home from near the edge of the box.

The second third saw multifarious changes on both sides, the home side seeming to gain more from them than the visitors, a move initiated by an Oaten run at the Garw defence ending when a Konten cross only just failed to connect with Morgan.

Then a move started by Walsh ended with a Thompson shot going just wide of the post. CB pulled one back when Samsom, with three defenders bearing down, managed to wriggle free to blast home from inside the box.

With CB now looking more confident, the ship seemed to be steadied, but a buffeting of bodies as the ball came into the CB box from the right saw defenders stumbling all over the place - James taking advantage to restore Garw's two goal lead.

Morgan won a free kick early in the final third and Konten only just failed to convert as the ball sailed just over the bar. It was Morgan who set the game alight with the goal of the game as he ghosted through the middle, fending off challenge after challenge before checking back to deceive the 'keeper and score.

CB were now the dominant force though time to get an equaliser was beginning to run out. Even so, Morgan was now causing Garw defenders all sorts of problems as he weaved his way around them as though they were training cones.

At the end of one of these darting runs he presented the ball on a plate for the grateful Jackhontaw to finish after 83 minutes.

Though Garw attacks were now less frequent, when they did break they found new CB signing, Constance, to be a difficult man to get past at the back. After he had repelled one such break CB earned a corner from the left which Jackhontaw curled directly in at the far post.

CB had looked pleased to have found a late equaliser, but to now have their noses in front was an added bonus. With CB now in comprehensive control Adams helped put the icing on the cake with a long and perfectly measured cross field pass for Thompson to run on to before making towards the left from where he found the narrow channel between 'keeper and post to take Cadoxton Barry's final tally to five.

Next Saturday Cadoxton Barry travel up the Aberdare Valley where they will meet Perthcelyn.
