ON SATURDAY, July 2, Barry Athletic Cricket Club's 1st XI entertained Cardiff Gymkhana at The Athletic Ground Barry Island.

They lost the toss and were asked to bat first on a sunny afternoon and posted a score of 191 for eight in their 50 overs, with the Baker brothers Nathan and Ashley getting 61 and 44 not out respectively.

It was particularly pleasing to see Ashley Baker get back to some form and play some positive and majestic shots in his innings, M Tariq was the best bowler for the visitors with four for 37.

Cardiff Gymkhana looked like they were going to chase the target down in no time as Talib with 95 and S Ali with 43 got them off to a brilliant start, but it was the introduction of Dafydd Frost whose six overs conceded just 10 runs and he took one wicket.

But it was rising young start Kerion Ferriday who stole the show as he took four for 27 in his five overs, between them, Frost and Ferriday bowled 11 overs and took five for 37, but these efforts were in vain as Cardiff Gymkhana ran out winners by four wickets.

This week Barry Athletic Take on rivals Sully Centurions with the 1st XI at home with a 12.30pm start at The Athletic Ground, Barry Island and the 2nd XI travelling the short distance to Burnham Avenue, Sully, with a 1pm start.
