BARRY Comprehensive School's Year 8 rugby team rounded off a superb season by being crowned Blues School Regional Champions beating Aberdare Community School 34 - 32 in a thrilling match.

Having won the Vale Cup and the Blues South Cup, fending off all the schools in Cardiff and the Vale, Barry Comprehensive earned the right to play Blues North Champions Aberdare at the University of South Wales Ground in Treforest.

The game was a real spectacle and both teams played at a very high level, showcasing school rugby at its best. The lead changed hands throughout the game and it looked as if the hot weather had taken its toll on Barry as Aberdare led by 15 points with seven minutes to play.

Somehow the boys in green found a new lease of life and attacked from all over the park and with the last play of the game Rory Turner -Robinson crossed for the winning try, his second of the game to add to tries by Evan Morgan (3) and Kyle Booker.

“This was a superb effort from the boys” said coach Mr Manley.

“To come back like that showed real character. This was a true team performance from an exceptional bunch of lads. I am very proud of the whole squad, they have worked so hard this year. They deserve this success.”
