SULLY Centurions Cricket Club travelled to top of the table Malpas on Saturday, June 11, with a side hit by non-availability and last minute withdrawals and were eventually well beaten by the home side.

Malpas batted first and were soon in trouble, when two wickets for Santosh Singh had both openers back in the pavilion with the score on 20 for two. Further inroads were made, with Pavel claiming three victims and further one for Santosh, which helped restrict Malpas to 188 all out in the 40th over.

However, the good work with the ball was undone by a below par batting performance, with Sully wickets falling with regularity. Only two made it to double figures, with Pavel top scoring with 21. A total of five ducks didn’t help the cause and the innings was wrapped up in the 23rd over with the score on 69.

Malpas 188 all out, Sully Centurions 69 all out.

On Sunday, Centurions made the short trip to Miskin Manor for the regional final of the Village Cup. After overnight rain the pitch was damp, but after winning the toss the home side decided to bat.

Miskin got off to a good start and soon got into their stride, with Beaverstock (79) and Hay (53) doing most of the damage.

The Miskin total of 240 for five was always going to be a difficult one to chase down in the allotted 40 overs – and so it proved to be. Santosh Singh’s 28 and Peter Thomas’ 17 were the main contributions until Russell Thomas, batting at number eight, decided to have a go.

Russell’s 42 helped Centurions to a respectable total, but even with his heroic contribution the final score of 134 all out was still 106 runs short of the target.

All at Sully wish Miskin good luck in the next round.
