MILLWOOD Bowling Club won by 19 shots in their Munro Cup match, though the team are still unsure whether it will be enough to see them progress.

After the fourth end had been played on Millwood had taken a five shot lead at 22-17, but after good bowling by the Central side this had developed into a two shot lead for them after the ninth end, leaving the score 36 –38 to Central.

Millwood bowlers then knuckled down to the task in hand and after the 13th end the lead had swung to Millwood who then took a 12 shot advantage to lead by 57—45.

This lead was too great a target for Central to try to claw back, as after the final 18th end, Millwood had the 19 shot winning margin, with the final score 83 – 64 to Millwood.

As the clubhouse welcomed all players after the game for the usual hospitality, and 'post mortem' as to how the game was played, everyone enjoyed the pleasure of a very sociable evening.

Travelling away to St Peters’ for this Division 4 game, the weather turned out well for this keenly contested game.

When the fifth end had been played, Millwood had managed to take a four shot lead at 19 – 15. What proceeded then put Millwood into a very welcome 17 shot advantage at the completion of the tenth end with the score at 45—28.

When the 15th end had been played, the score was now a lot closer with Millwood only leading by 51—41. As luck would have it, the gap for St Peters’ was just that little bit out of reach, as Millwood ran out the winners by a very slender margin of just three shots at the 21st end, and won by 72 shots to 69.

A lot of good play by Millwood on rink two at the beginning formed the basis of this win, because after just 10 ends Brian Crockford’s rink led by a very healthy 19 shots to zero.

Welcoming Cadoxton A for this Division 7 game, Millwood A took a very early lead after the fifth end with 25 shots to 20, but at the tenth end the gap had narrowed but still in favour of Millwood for them to be only three shots in the lead at 40 – 37.

It looked like a very close game could be on the cards over the last half of the game. Millwood put a bit of pressure on Cadoxton A and after the 15th end the game still stood in favour of the home side to be leading by 59 shots to 54.

As Millwood kept piling the shots in they managed to run out winners by an 11 shot winning margin 84 – 73. A good result was due to rink four who managed a 10 shot winning margin.

Without that margin, a very different game might have been very keenly contested. As with every game, a lot depends on good play, luck and what chances are taken or missed.
