MILLWOOD Bowling Club welcome Barry Athletic to the green, on a lovely evening for a Munro Cup game, on Wednesday, May 4.

It didn’t take long for Millwood to try to put as big a lead as possible in the very early stages, for after only four ends had been contested, Millwood had opened up a 10 shot advantage to lead by 19 shots to nine.

But much to Millwood’s surprise Barry Athletic bowlers had found some of the form that was only to be expected of them, for Millwood were now looking at only a three shot advantage at 32—29.

Much to fairly steady Millwood bowling, the game had swung towards the home side, for after the 13th end, Millwood were leading by 55 shots to 39, a 16 shot advantage.

With even more consistent bowling, Millwood finally took the Cup tie to run out winners by a 19 shot total lead and finished the game 77 shots to 58.

Well done to all players for playing to the normal standard of sportsmanship, that every game of bowls is played in.

The expected after match hospitality was enjoyed in the clubhouse. Thanks go to Barry Athletic for an enjoyable Cup Game.

Welcoming Griffin Park Bowling Club to Millwood for this Carruthers Shield tie on Saturday, May 7, Millwood took a very early advantage, for at the fifth end Millwood had taken a 17-15 shot lead over Griffin Park.

With the game neatly balanced, the advantage had swung Griffin Park’s way for them to be leading by 31 shots to 35. Then much to everyone’s dismay, the heavens opened and down came a really heavy downpour.

Play was held up for a while, and when play did resume, of course the green played entirely differently, heavy and pushy. Both sides had to cope with it and Griffin Park really put the pressure on Millwood, and had galloped into a convincing 27 shot lead after the 15th end at 40-67.

This was surely too much for Millwood to make up in the last quarter of the tie, and so it proved, because Griffin Park ran out eventual winners after the 21st end had been bowled by a very hefty 32 shot advantage, with the final shots total standing at Millwood 60 - Griffin Park 92.

Even though this was a bit of a body blow to Millwood, the tie was still played in the best of sportsmanship, and post mortems continued in the clubhouse among the hospitality that was offered by Millwood to Griffin Park.

Taking a trip out to visit Murch Bowling Club for this South Vale League game on Saturday, May 7, Millwood A began the game by taking an early three shot lead, after the fifth end had been played to lead by 14 shots to 11.

For the next five ends the game took a very keenly contested battle to gain the half-way lead, unfortunately this went to Murch for the tenth end score was Murch 32 - Millwood 31.

Another heavy downpour meant a break in play, but at the resumption of play, Millwood had no answer to the consistent bowling that Murch applied against Millwood, because after the 15th end had been played, the home side had taken a massive 33 shot margin to be in front by 41 – 74.

Trying as best they could, after the final 21st end had been played, Murch had run out winners by a fairly modest 10 shot win at 72-82. Credit due to Millwood for not giving in easily for the last quarter of the game, because to claw back a 33 shot deficit, and only end up losing by 10 shots shows that good bowling will bring dividends in the end.
