CADOXTON Bowling Club have decided to give free membership for the first year to any new members to allow them to decide if the sport is too their liking.

This is due to a spate of injuries, hospitalisation, and general bad health, which has hit their membership prior to the opening of the season.

However early games were completed in the SVL against Llantwit Major and a Munro Cup match against Rhoose, and a Carruthers fixture with Murch as the opposition. This weekend two teams were formed including some of the walking wounded, against Bridgend in a Carruthers fixture and Romilly, in the SVL.

The latter which had to play short were well beaten.

The match against Bridgend started off in fairly good weather, with the home side building a nine shot advantage until the game was held up with a heavy rain storm. It was decided to take an early tea and the game was resumed and the sun came out to enable the game to be completed.

This resulted in a turn round of fortunes and the away side getting back into the game.

Roy Harding’s rink failed to score in the second period until a three on the final end.

Don Kuhnell held a convincing 10 shot advantage at the break, but had to fight hard to keep most of the losing ends down to single shots, and the advantage was cut to four shots. A much needed five was scored on the next. Although losing a four on the following end the game was seen out with a four shot win.

Howard Craven also held an advantage at the break with the score at 11-5. However they continued with the game with both sides sharing the scoring. Five successful ends including two threes for the home side and six wins for the away side including one three. This brought another home win.

The final rink was skipped by Gordon Davies they trailed by five shots at the half-way stage, but an improvement on the resumption conceded just a further three shots, during the rest of the game, to fail by eight.
