Cardiff Quins Youth 29 v Barry RFC Youth 28

BARRY RFC Youth team travelled to the Cardiff Quins Youth ground in an attempt to reverse their previous result.

Being able to only field 14 players, Barry were up against it from the off. The Quins started brightly and played some decent attacking rugby and Barry just weren't at the races. Barry were slow to the breakdown and looked lost in defence in the first half, this saw the quins score 14 unanswered points.

The scoreline may not have been so one-sided were it not for poor handling and dropped balls from the Barry players.

The half-time message from the coaching staff was for Barry to start believing in their own abilities and to take the game to the Quins. This message didn't appear to kick in with the Quins scoring another two quick unconverted tries making the score a very one-sided 24-0.

Eventually though the "baby bombers" realised they were involved in a game of rugby and began taking the game to the hosts. With strong running from the pack and line breaks from Peake and Webb, Barry looked to try and get on the scoreboard.

However, more handling errors and last minute knock-ons looked to be a thorn in the "baby bombers" side. Barry had their tails up however and refused to give up.

With some exciting play from outside half Morgan-Grant he was able to score a well worked try, he also added the extras with a successful conversion.

Barry now started to believe they maybe in the game and with some outstanding work at the breakdown from the forwards, the back line sparked into action and winger Adam Webb was able to break away, showing off his pace to score a well worked try. Morgan-Grant added the extras.

Barry were well and truly working through the gears now and after some great work yet again from the pack Tom "TVH" Hunt was able to pick up from a ruck and crash over the try line with no fewer than four Quins defenders hanging off him. Again Morgan-Grant added the extras.

With the score now at 24-21 the baby bombers were on the front foot. However, after an error in the midfield Quins picked up a spilled ball and crossed the line for an unconverted try.

Still thinking a win was possible Morgan-Grant took a quick kick-off and immediately put Quins under pressure. Quins attempted to clear their lines but Barry were able to win the ball back and after a clever chip over the top Morgan-Grant was able to pick up his own kick and race towards the line.

He also converted the try making his points tally for the day an impressive 18.

Unfortunately for the "baby bombers" that was to be the last play of the game. The final score saw the Quins with a very narrow 29-28 win.

The "baby bombers" can be proud of themselves for not giving up and for sticking at the task until the final whistle.

The "baby bombers" next and last league fixture will be at home against Llandaff North on Saturday, May 14.
