THE big story of the weekend in the Vale Football League was of Cardiff Airport representing the area in the SWFA Intermediate Cup.

The VOGAFL Champions impressively dispatched Hirwaun Sports 4-0 in the semi-finals to set up a final with the much fancied Trebanog FC. Good luck to the Airport in the final on May 4.

In Premier Division action second place Wenvoe Arms were held 2-2 by AFC Rhoose. Wenvoe find themselves six points off league leaders St Athan, who did not play this weekend due to a water logged pitch after the heavy rain in the early hours of Saturday.

Elsewhere Dinas Powys Athletic edged out Masons Moving Group 3-2 to leap frog them into seventh. While SP Construction finally lifted themselves off the foot of the table with a 3-2 victory over strugglers Penarth Town.

In the Premier Divisions ASRS Cup Barry Athletic booked a semi-final spot with a 4-1 win over Cowbridge Town.

The First Division's fixture list was left decimated by the weather but the big clash of the weekend saw second place Cogan Coronation end Vale United's 10 game undefeated steak with a last minute winner to secure a 2-1 win.

A vital win for Cogan as they now sit just a point off Sully Sports with two games in hand. This result must make Cogan the odds on favourites.

Division Two leaders Barry Athletic B romped to a huge 13-0 bottom side Cowbridge Town B in the only fixture in the third tier. Athletic B have Dockers hot on their tail as that title race hots up.

Next week's pick of the matches, sees one in midweek as Barry Athletic host Wenvoe Arms in the Premier Division, while next weekend it's the Dockers Cup final. Can Barry Albion cause an upset or will Dockers Reunited win the cup of the same name in their first season back in the league?

Also Cogan play Barry Belgrade in the Supporters Cup semi-finals for the right to play Vale United.
