BRANDON Rees from Barry Running Club applied for the Army two years ago and sadly got differed on medical grounds and had to wait until now before he could reapply.

He has put in a tremendous amount of hard work in preparation for his selection test this week, by coming along to the club and as a result his running has come on in leaps and bounds.

This Thursday he has to travel to Litchfield for a two day selection test. If he successfully passes he will move on to do 14 weeks of basic training at either Winchester or Pirbright. This will involve a series of physical training, map reading, getting used to living outdoors, live firing and most importantly turning himself from civilian to a soldier.

Towards the end he will undergo another physical test, and once passed he will be able to march out on the parade square in front of close friends and family.

He will be given the beret of his chosen regiment, of which he has put forward to join 1st Queens Dragoon Guards (The Welsh Cavalry) this is a family regiment as his father was a QDG and his uncle was a QDG.

Everyone at the club wishes Brandon all the very best.
