GARETH "Taz" Burbridge came to Eagles Gym at Barry Island Sports and Social Club to train under Arjan Peter Stewart.

Mr Burbridge who had trained in other martial arts previous had no idea of what he was about to be taught in the deadly art of Muay Thai -Thai Boxing.

The art of eight weapons - two fists, two elbows, two knees and two legs - his style was a mixture of all.

So now the challenge was on to convert him purely to the Muay Thai style of combat. Mr Burbridge was put on a bag to drum the pure Thai Round home kick box for three months.

After six months he was ready to fight. Now seven fights on and he has won all of them with them all being knock-outs, mainly in the first round.

He now holds three titles at professional level -Welsh, English and British Titles - and now preparing for the five Nation K1 Pro Title on February 13.

After this he will be preparing to fight in Holland followed by Las Vegas. Arjan Stewart says Mr Burbridge’s dedication and commitment is the strongest ever seen in any of his students over 35 years of teaching and believes by next year he will be fighting Thailand’s best in Lumpini Stadium Bangkok.

Eagles gym, based at Barry Island Sports and Social Club., is open Monday to Thursday. For more information please call 07973 384 275.
