South Wales Alliance Division One

Cadoxton Barry 0 - Baglan 1

WITHIN a minute of the kick off a Baglan shot from the middle of the park flew just over the CB bar. Baglan continued to take the early initiative before CB's first serious attack saw a promising Baker cross find Thompson in a marginally off side position.

But the visitors continued to dominate as a header from the centre of the box was only a whisker too high. Then a Baglan free kick from just beyond the box was blasted high and wide.

For CB, Adams won a ball on the right bye line and cut it back across the face of goal. With three CB attackers lining up, a goal looked on the cards, but somehow all three managed to mistime their lunges much to the relief of the visiting 'keeper.

Finally, CB were getting their fair share of the ball, although another Baglan free kick on the edge of the box was well blocked by a solid CB wall. So with the game goalless at half-time it was still anybody's to grab.

The second half continued to be end to end play which produced no real highlights until, in the dying minutes, CB managed to do something they had managed to do on at least three previous occasions in the season - give away a late goal when at least one point had looked safe.

Following a spell of CB pressure a long clearance was hoisted high and deep into the CB half near the left touch line. With the regular defence out of position it fell to Curran to do his best.

But he lost possession as it came to earth, allowing the wing man to cut in, round 'keeper Harker and score a well executed goal into the far right of the CB net. CB's play became urgent in the couple of minutes that remained, but the Baglan back line was resolute in seeing time out.

Four points have now been surrendered in the closing minutes of games so far this season. Let's hope that they don't turn out to be important when it comes to sorting out who goes down and who stays up at the end of the season.

Meanwhile, in the Vale League Division One, CB 2nds went on a seven goal spree against Barry Vale. Scorers were Christopherato 3, Hopkins 2, Bennet and Coles. Coming on for the final 15 minutes, Coles looked impressive, though the man of the match was Rowlands who, although not scoring, had a hand in setting up four of the seven goals scored.
