FIVE gold, four silver and seven bronze were the rewards for a successful day competing for the Cadoxton Tae Kwon Do school students. The Global Taekwondo International British Open Championships was held at Cheltenham Leisure Centre where competitors from all over the UK converged to take part in this well run event.

The event started with traditional forms, where young Thea Cunningham came away with a credible second, Lucia Cunningham and Ethan Andrus taking third places.

Once the pattern sections were over the point sparring got under way.

First up was the girls pee wee green belt point sparring, where Maddison Allen took first with Charlie Rogers and Thea Cunningham both taking third place in the girl's junior green belt categories. Whilst Leland Butler fought his way through to take third place in the boys junior yellow belt category.

Competing in a very strong boys red belt middleweight continuous sparring they had Cameron Evans and Ethan Andrus, who both worked their way through to the finals with Cameron taking first and Ethan coming away with the third place.

Competing for the first time in the junior boy's black belt light, middle and heavyweight categories were Cian Allen, Jake Quigley, Cody Jacobsen and Joel Wells who all gave a good account of themselves with Cian taking the bronze in the middleweights.

Meanwhile competing in the girl's middleweight category, Lucy Newman fought her way through to the final eventually taking first place and the gold.

Once again dominating the women's black belt lightweight continuous sparring was Keita Enfield, Keita went on to take gold and the first place. While in the men's black belt lightweight continuous sparring was Matthew Bennett, Matthew reached the final which went into extra time three times, Matthews's fitness showed as he eventually took first place.

The event ended with the adult and junior team's synchronised patterns; with only a short time to prepare they put a junior team in consisting of Lucy Newman, Cody Jacobsen and Cian Allen and they took second place and the silver medal.
