THE RETURN of striker TJ Nagi helped inspire Barry Town to a thrilling Welsh Cup win at Briton Ferry Llansawel on Saturday, the striker netting twice in a 3-2 comeback triumph.

Having fallen behind in the first half of this compelling First Round tie at the Old Road, Gavin Chesterfield's side stared elimination in the face when the home side were awarded a penalty.

However, Briton Ferry's Steve Davey would fire the spot kick over Dan Bradley's crossbar and Nagi's equaliser minutes later ensured the visitors were back on terms at the interval.

The second half saw the hosts regain their slender advantage, when a Josh Pike free kick missed everyone and found its way into the back of Bradley's net.

Nevertheless, Barry would bounce back once more, this time courtesy of a long-range strike of exceptional quality from defender Bobby Briers.

It was then left to comeback king Nagi to settle matters in the Town's favour; slotting home to become the club's all-time second highest Welsh Cup goalscorer in the Welsh Cup and put the Barry name into the hat for the Second Round.

Notably, nine of Barry's 11 starters on Saturday were part of the club's semi-final side of 2013; with the other two (Damon Searle and Drew Fahiya) featuring in a total of five Welsh Cup finals between 1992 and 2010.

Saturday also saw defender Ryan Evans make his 100th competitive appearance for his hometown club.

The Members', Manager's and Players' Player of the Year for 2014-15, Evans originally signed for the Jenner Park side in December 2011 and has since helped the Town to both the Welsh League Division Three and Division Two championship titles.

A former Welsh Cup semi-finalist, the versatile centre-back has also scored important goals in the competition in each of the last three seasons, at Flint Town United in 2012-13, Cefn Druids in 2013-14 and Aberdare Town in 2014-15.

Evans joins teammates James Dixon, TJ Nagi, Lee Baldock, Michael Hartley, James Saddler, Lewis Cosslett and Dan Bradley in having made 100 or more competitive appearances for the Barry first team.

This weekend, the Town are without a fixture, as focus switches to the national team's attempt at qualification for Euro 2016.
