South Wales Intermediate Cup Round 1

Barry Athletic 1 Splott Cons Old Boys 5

LEADING 1-0 at half-time with a goal from Teejay Caton the Athletic felt that they were in control of this well attended match.

With Frank Roe and Ben Pearce stepping into the squad and not looking out of place the general feeling for the half-time team talk was more of the same and the Athletic would be looking out for the second round draw.

Splott came out of the traps like a greyhound at the start of the second half and Athletic were in turmoil.

Two goals in quick succession and a red card for an Athletic midfielder and the tables had turned rapidly. The rest of the game saw Splott constantly on the attack and the inevitable came with another three goals and another red card for the Athletic finishing the game with nine men.

A disappointing end to what could have been a great return to the Athletic ground. Thanks to all supporters that turned out and to Ben Jones Building Contractor for sponsoring the match ball.

Athletic have a community open day on Saturday, October 3. Anyone that is interested in becoming involved with a local club at any age can join them. Please feel free to come along to the Athletic ground where there will be football matches from 10am until 4pm.
