BARRY Town United enter the storied Welsh Cup tournament on Saturday, October 3, hoping to make amends for a sizeable blip that saw them humbled 4-0 at Afan Lido last weekend.

The former Welsh Premier League mainstays have enjoyed a fine run of form over recent weeks, but few observers would have predicted the severity of the defeat at Marstons Stadium, on an afternoon Town supporters will be keen to forget.

Striker Chris Hartland led the way for the hosts, claiming an impressive hat-trick for his efforts, with teammate Elliott Thomas adding to the tally, as Barry slipped to seventh in the Welsh League Division One, ahead of a two-week fixture hiatus.

As fate would have it though, Saturday's Welsh Cup foes will be another Division One outfit, in the form of Briton Ferry Llansawel.

Ferry were 3-2 winners of the pair's most recent meeting, a July 2014 friendly; and should fancy their chances on home soil against a Barry side licking their wounds from the Lido outing.

However, the Town hold a proud tradition of Welsh Cup success and manager Gavin Chesterfield will hope to help kick-start another run like that which carried Barry to the semi-final stage in 2012-13.

If history should hold any weight, the three Welsh Cup ties between the Ferry and Town in days gone by have each been settled by a single goal, which bodes for a close affair at Old Road this weekend.

Kick-off is at 2pm, with the tie needing to be settled on the day via extra-time and penalties, if required.
