Division One Men's

Tynewydd 6-1 Cadoxton Barry

TYNEWYDD went into this game on the back of six games unbeaten having only lost their opening game of the season. They started the more confident breaking the Cadoxton Barry high offside line on numerous occasions in the first 25 minutes and really should have been a few goals up in that period.

But as the old adage goes if you don't take your chances you'll pay and that proved true when a poor defensive header fell straight to the Cadoxton captain on the edge of the box, who made no mistake arrowing a ball into the corner giving the 'keeper no chance.

The game drifted until the last five minutes of the half when the Tynny finally got the goal their earlier dominance deserved; a long ball into the box creating trouble for the back four and Andrew Colburn was on hand to turn in from close range.

On the stroke of half-time Tynny took the lead when a well worked move resulted in Simon Bellamy over lapping on the left wing to fire in a low cross which was neatly finished by Ross Smith.

Knowing the next goal was vital in the second half, Tynny grabbed a two goal advantage early on when they broke the offside trap again. Ross Smith rounding the 'keeper to tap into an empty net.

Soon after he grabbed his third of the game when he calmly side-footed a volley direct from a corner into the net.

Lewis Union was next to get in on the goals when a mesmerising run down the left channel past numerous defenders and the 'keeper resulted in him rolling the ball into the net to make it 5-1.

Tynny then made the most of their large bench making all three changes allowed and Steven Eveleigh coming on at right back (yet playing right wing) was unlucky not to score when he failed to get a toe on a cross into the box.

It was another substitute, Rhys Simmons, who rounded off the scoring when some quick neat feet in the box, created enough room for him to smash a left effort into the roof of the net.

It was nice to see the Tynny finally take some of the multitude of chances they've created over the last few weeks and add some much needed goals to their game, although it was slightly annoying to let go of the clean sheet run they had been on.

Man of the Match went to Ross Smith for his three goals.
