Tynewydd FC 2-0 Penarth Town "A"

Barry Cup Round 1

TYNEWYDD FC made it through to the second round of the Barry Cup after over coming Premier Division side Penarth Town.

The Tynny came into the match on a run of three clean sheets but with two of those being 0-0 draws they knew that they would have to soon start converting some of the ample opportunities they were creating to get all three points, or in Saturday's case, passage through to Round 2.

Early in the first half a few direct balls into the Penarth box had caused problems with the defence and 'keeper struggling to clear their lines. It wasn't long after that a long ball from George Pycroft bounced around in the box and found it's way into the back of the net either from a Penarth player, Andrew Colburn or even Ross Smith who threw his hat in the ring (unsurprisingly) to claim the goal, although taking the lead itself was more important than who by.

Tynny continued to put pressure on the Penarth defence but only went in at half-time 1-0.

Starting the second half much brighter, Tynny were soon 2-0 up after a lovely passing move from left to right involving numerous players created an opening for Colburn to have a clear shot from the edge of the box which the Penarth 'keeper just managed to save but failed to hold and Lloyd Union was quickest off the mark to turn in from close range, smashing the ball into the roof of the net.

Tynny knew if they could maintain their defensive record they could see the game out and in all truth the back four of Prav, Jammo, George and Simon never looked like conceding with Jodie Shepherd having little to do in goals. Special mention also goes to Colburn whose dominance in the middle of the park makes it a lot easier for the central defensive duo of the Tynny.

Chris Marchant came onto to make his debut up top adding more of a presence to the forwards line and was unlucky not to bag a goal for himself on his debut.

Man of the Match went to James (Jammo) Clissett for a solid defensive display, leading to the Tynny's fourth successive clean sheet but in all fairness this award could have gone to any of the back five or midfield screener Colburn.
